The two continued to live a fairly normal life together, with Takeru playing video games and Sumika waking him up every day. Despite how it would seem to just be something put together to get Sumika to stop crying, she valued it deeply, and carried it around with her at almost all times. She came crying to Takeru about it, and he quickly improvised, giving her a Santa Rabbit. It is shown in a flashback that when they were young, Santa hadn't visited Sumika one year. Sumika is unable to imagine life without him. They've lived next to each other for their entire lives.
